“We are better served, I think, if we worry less about others who would have a knee-jerk negative to the way of God. We do well to think at least a little more about those places and times in our lives when we might say to Jesus, as we essentially heard in the story, ‘What business do you have coming here?’ Life with Jesus is a life of change, and we know that change is not always welcome. One key here for us is to strive to remember what the disturbed man in the story recognizes quickly — that Jesus comes as the Holy One of God. He comes to liberate us from whatever might be holding us back, or down. If he is coming to destroy something is in us, that thing needs to go.”
