“As much as we ever have, we need covenant. We are clearly very good at expressing and embodying our individuality, our independence, our separateness, maybe even to a fault. Believe me, as much as anyone, I celebrate the spaces and the times apart that I am able to have, able to exercise, along with the freedom I have to express myself and to make choices, but part of what I find as I go and do these things, as I go and snowshoe through the woods or sit by a fire with a good book, part of  what I’m doing if finding space to rediscover my oneness with snow, with the trees, with the deer, with the air, with the fire, with the author of the book, and so on – all of it one with me, and me with it.”
