“Our natural response to disaster is to rebuild. Tbat’s what the book of Nehemiah is all about, rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem after is was destroyed. Rebuilding gives us a sense of safety, of normalcy again. More and more in recent years we’re seeing news of natural disasters: drought and famine, terrible forest fires, killer storms and floods. Much rebuilding is being required. And yet, in the midst of rebuilding, we often fail to ask the question, “what caused this disaster in the first place?”
