Cardinal in Snow
The cardinal is a perennial favorite of many. The brilliant red color of the male stands out anywhere. According to the website World Birds, Cardinals represent devotion, and loving relationships. In Native American lore, some tribes think cardinals to be the harbinger of rain, other tribes, like the southeastern tribes, associate good fortune and sun with them. This one, however is in the snow, cold and alone, waiting his turn at our feeder.
We too value loving relationships, but it has been a tough year. No hugs, masks, and social distancing make anything other than immediate family relationships nigh impossible. Even near family relationships can be dangerous. But our faith tells us a new day is coming, even as we near the end of our expectant Advent waiting. Come Lord Jesus.
