“Mary’s initial reaction. her Easter reaction, her initial response, says a lot about us, I think. She is so overwhelmingly preoccupied with her quest for Jesus and his body, that she misses him, standing right in front of her. She is looking so hard to find Jesus that she assumes that he is the gardener.  There are those times that we enter into a situation with such a preconceived idea of what we’re going to find, or not going to find, that we can’t see the truth. We can’t see that all along Jesus has been right in front of us. We really needn’t look so frantically, we just need to listen. There’s enough of a pause in the story where Mary is able to hear Jesus say her name, and in that pause everything changes, because she knows that she is known.”
